Open trail sponsorship

November 7, 2021

The first section of the Central South Trail from Timaru to Pleasant Point 18km, opened in November 2021 principle sponsors where the transport agency contributing $500,000 and the Timaru District Council chipped in $226,358 from its Covid-19 stimulus fund.

The opening of the multi-purpose Central South Trail (CST) in November 07, 2021, linking Timaru with Pleasant Point will provide a new opportunity for people looking to exercise.

Timaru District mayor Nigel Bowen snipped the ribbon at Washdyke’s Sir Basil Arthur Park on Saturday before a crowd of around 60 people which included Mackenzie District mayor Graham Smith.

A group of cyclists then headed up to Pleasant Point along the first stage of the trail – which is planned to eventually reach Takapō/Tekapo.

“The bridges got finished during the week and overall it has gone really well,” CST chair Frazer Munro said.
